Your information is private and secure. No pressure to commit.

The first call is a crucial step in the admissions process. During this confidential conversation with a trusted professional, we will educate you about our program offerings and which services may best suit your needs or those of your loved one.

If Colorado Mental Health Services is the right fit for you or your loved one, we move on to pre-qualification and assessment. Our team will conduct a series of over-the-phone interviews and assessments to determine if we can meet your clinical and medical needs. Every individual is unique, and our program offers a unique service line to attempt to meet you where you are. If we determine that we are not the best fit for your needs, we will provide referrals to programs that may better suit your situation.

We will also collect and verify your insurance policy information and inform you of the costs associated with our services. As an in-network treatment provider, we accept many common insurance plans, making mental health treatment affordable and accessible.

Once you have all the information you need and have had all your questions answered, we will schedule your intake appointment at one of our facilities. We can even assist with transportation within a reasonable distance from our locations.

Questions? We’re Here to Answer

How do I get admitted to CMHS?

The admissions process at CMHS begins with a phone call to (720) 728-1842. The admissions team will conduct an initial phone assessment to understand your diagnosis, current level of functioning, insurance coverage, and treatment goals. If CMHS appears to be a clinical fit, a formal intake assessment will be scheduled along with an initial psychiatric evaluation. The entire process is designed to be straightforward and supportive, without requiring a referral from a physician or therapist (though referrals are welcome).

CMHS is in-network with a broad range of major insurers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Optum Behavioral Health, TRICARE, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Kaiser Permanente, and Medicaid. CMHS does not currently accept Medicare, Aetna, Ambetter, or Oscar. Insurance coverage for IOP mental health treatment can vary by plan, so the admissions team will conduct a complimentary verification of benefits (VOB) during the intake process to clarify what your plan covers before you begin.

CMHS’s IOP program is appropriate for adults who have a diagnosed mental health condition, are psychiatrically stable, and need more support than weekly therapy but do not need 24-hour supervision or crisis stabilization. If you or your loved one is experiencing active suicidal ideation with a plan, psychosis, or a mental health crisis requiring hospitalization, CMHS will refer you to a higher level of care. CMHS does have partner facilities for clients who need stabilization first before stepping down into IOP. If you are unsure, call the admissions line at (720) 728-1842 and the team will help you determine the most appropriate level of care.

The CMHS IOP program typically runs 12 to 20 weeks depending on each client’s individual treatment plan and progress. The standard curriculum is approximately 12 weeks, which is the duration most commonly covered by insurance. However, some clients have had insurance coverage extended up to 20 weeks (approximately five months) based on clinical need. The admissions team and your treatment providers will work closely with your insurance carrier to maximize your covered days.

CMHS treats a wide range of primary mental health diagnoses including: major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, grief and loss, borderline personality disorder (BPD), mood disorders, ADHD, attachment disorders, autism spectrum disorder (mild/low support needs), eating disorders (post-stabilization), and schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (low acuity, stable, medicated cases only). Dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring and already-treated substance use may also be considered. Clients with high-acuity presentations, active psychosis, or severe suicidality are not appropriate for IOP and will be referred to higher levels of care.

Many people who call CMHS initially want only individual therapy, but the structured IOP program offers something that one-on-one therapy cannot: community. Mental health struggles — especially anxiety, depression, and trauma — often lead to isolation, which compounds symptoms over time. CMHS’s group therapy is specifically designed to break that cycle by helping clients develop coping and grounding skills in the context of a supportive peer community. Research consistently shows that group-based treatment is highly effective for many mental health conditions, and CMHS augments groups with two individual therapy sessions per week, giving clients both peer community and dedicated one-on-one clinical attention.
