What Is PTSD?

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition that develops after witnessing or being involved in a deeply traumatic event. PTSD is common among people who have been abused, who have been in active conflict, who are grieving, and who have had near-death experiences.

PTSD changes the structure and chemistry of the brain. It can leave a person’s nervous system in a constant state of threat.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program For PTSD

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for people suffering from PTSD. The structured care provides intense therapeutic support at our facility while allowing you the flexibility to return home in the evening.

Our IOP runs 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. It includes:

  • 3 group sessions
  • 2 individual sessions with a therapist
  • Medication management as needed
  • Psychiatric services weekly

The typical duration is 12 weeks but can be extended to 20 weeks.

Our Medical Director oversees the IOP. He is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in mental health treatment, including PTSD. He works closely with our team to deliver comprehensive care that improves people’s quality of life.

Benefits of an Intensive Outpatient Program

An IOP is proven to contribute to better outcomes for people with PTSD.

IOP often has high retention rates, so when you complete the program you are more likely to seek further treatment that sustains your stability.

IOPs are also ideal for people who need to work, study or have other responsibilities while they receive treatment. You return home in the evening, so you maintain a sense of independence and can apply new skills to real life in real time.

Community is a big part of IOP for PTSD. By being able to stay connected to your personal community, you have essential support and motivation while undergoing treatment. This network can improve your chance of recovery.

No, an IOP is not hospitalization. IOPs generally take place in treatment facilities and allow participants to return home after sessions.

Attendants in IOPs will have access to supervised therapy, medication, and monitoring; however, these are all conducted with the person’s approval. IOPs are not a form of involuntary commitment.
