An intensive outpatient program, or IOP, is structured mental health treatment that sits between weekly therapy and 24/7 care. You get several hours of therapy a week, a team that shares one plan, and regular medical follow-up, while you keep living at home and sleeping in your own bed.
As a mental health intensive outpatient program in Colorado, ours runs to about ten hours a week: three group mornings in Lakewood and one individual session with your own therapist. For many people it's the first time treatment has had real structure, and you don't need to have been anywhere else first.
Groups meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm, in person at our practice on West 14th Avenue. Your individual session is booked separately each week, and psychiatry appointments are made as needed within program hours. Tuesdays, Fridays and afternoons stay yours. Fitting it around a job? A short Track 9 check-in each week gives you and your clinician the same score to look at. When it doesn't move, your plan does.
How we measureNo diagnosis is needed to start. If you already have one, we take a fresh look at it rather than assuming it still fits you.

Therapies in the programEvery week, everyone in the program completes Track 9, a short check-in on depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, optimism and symptoms specific to them. You fill it in yourself, and it's scored by an outside outcomes platform, not by your clinician.
Mental health is always the main focus here. The same ten hours a week are shaped around what you're dealing with, and each page explains how.
A clinician talks it through with you and helps you find the right level of care, whether that's here or somewhere else.
Book a free pre-assessmentThe difference between IOP and weekly therapy is mostly hours and how joined-up your care is: ten hours instead of one, a group you see three times a week, and a medical team on the same plan. For more on the signs, read When is weekly therapy no longer enough?
The pre-assessment is where we work out together whether this program is the right next step, so you start somewhere that can really help. We welcome people with psychosis who are connected enough to reality to take part in group; when it's untreated or severe, a higher level of care comes first, and we'll help you find it.
Lakewood is about 15 minutes west of downtown Denver. Admission is rolling, so there's no fixed start date to wait for, and you can call and begin the process yourself.

Admissions checks your insurance benefits before you start, at no cost. The plans we accept and how the check works are on our insurance and admissions page.
Getting here three days a week is a real obstacle for some people. Ask admissions about transportation assistance; there's nothing awkward about raising it.
Your next step is planned with your team before your last morning. Most plans include ongoing individual therapy, and your medical care carries on.

Find us in LakewoodMany people do, but it depends on your job. Groups meet on weekday mornings, which suits people with flexible hours, part-time schedules or time on leave. Bring your work schedule to the pre-assessment and a clinician will look at it honestly with you before you commit to anything.
Can I work while in a mental health program? You get about ten hours a week instead of one, and a group you see three mornings a week. Psychiatry is on the same team rather than at a separate practice, and a weekly Track 9 check-in shows whether things are moving, so your plan changes when the scores don't.
Is IOP the right level of care? We'll help you find it. If the pre-assessment shows you need support around the clock, our team helps you find the right level of care elsewhere, so you start where you'll get the most help. If substance use becomes the main concern, your care can continue at Red Rock.
When another kind of care fits betterYou can start without one. The first step is a free pre-assessment with a clinician, and if you already have a diagnosis, our team takes a fresh look at it instead of assuming it still fits. You don't need a referral either, so you can call and start the process yourself.
How getting started worksYou keep your existing prescriptions when you start. Our prescriber reviews what you take with you and coordinates with your outside psychiatrist or doctor rather than working around them, and nothing changes without a conversation first. Psychiatry is part of the program, so there's no separate referral to arrange.
